Remote Control Aircraft Tug for less than $600. Some Welding required !

I built this tug to move my J5 Cub and my Bellanca Cruisair. Seems to work very good. Was fun to build! The motors have been upgraded to 350 watt 24v. I've adjusted some parameters in the radio receiver to cut the power a bit and to ease the start and stop. Be sure to check out the tug details including specific receiver configuration settings. ruclips.net/video/JD_cFsObH3E/видео.html Parts lis...
Scott's Homebuilt Remote Control Aircraft Tug

My original tug has worked so well over the last 5 years or so, I wasn't sure I could make it better. Well, back to the engineering table and out came a new remote control tug. All it took was a little welding and cutting here and there as well as good use of my Amazon Prime account for parts!

    Congrats on your project !!! Well Done !! Happy that I stumbled onto your video. I had never seen one like yours before, but seriously, it's so very close to what I've been envisioning and wanting to make. Watching your video, I couldn't stop thinking "yeah, that's exactly what I wanted to make !!! " The one exception in my planning is that I was thinking of using 450 watt motors because I'm on a grass field but it sounds like 2 x 350 watt motors is more than enough? I'd love to hear your thoughts on that. In any case, now I'm even more interested in getting it done. 🙂

    • @N3661a
      @N3661a 5 месяцев назад

      Thanks! The 350 Watt motors have plenty of power and move My Cub and Bellanca Cruisair around with ease. I'm also on a grass strip. I do need push a little with the Bellanca to get it rolling as it runs out of traction if the grass is wet but the Bellanca is 2000 lbs

      Thanks, no I didn't do the overhaul but I did disassemble a portion of the engine to check things out and replace some parts I wasn't happy with. The overhaul was done about 20 years ago and the engine has been in storage since. There was a fair amount of drama getting it running but it finally succumbed to my wishes and ran. Yes on the tailBeaconX. Figured I may as well do the AV30s and tailBeaconX as long as I was spending money.

    I am in a club that owns four planes, and we are considering building four tugs. Our 172, Archer, and Cirrus have nosewheel fairings. Do you think that the fairings would get scratched on the turntable? You changed from 250-Watt motors to 350-Watt motors. How do you feel about the change? Do you have any drawings available?

    • @N3661a
      @N3661a 7 месяцев назад

      You would need to make sure the width of the tug would work with wheel pants. I'm sure the design could be modified to work. The 350 watt motor are much better and what I should have started with.

      The original motors are 12v 6amp and about 50 RPM. They have plenty of power but the tug is slow. I bumped the voltage to 24 volt which made a big difference bit it is still slow. I just upgraded to 350 watt 24volt motors but have not had a chance to install them yet. I think they will be much better. The controller is a PN00218-CYT14 Cytron Motor Driver 30Amp 7V-35V. I will post back here if the 350waatt motor are a big difference.
